This is an important subject for study as psychological disorders are extremely common. Many people who come for treatment have evidence of mental or emotional imbalances, although these may not be the primary presenting symptom.

The module covers main categories of mental health disorder that are seen in the clinic. Terms and labels are used which allow cross-reference with other more conventional texts. In most areas however, the discussion is decidedly unconventional as conditions are described from a holistic and homeopathic point of view. Participants who successfully complete this course will be eligible to move onto the one year Post graduate Naturopathy Course to become a qualified Naturopath.

Description of course and content

This seven module course is run between February and November 2007 and provides advanced training in the use of combination homoeopathic medicines, particularly detoxification and drainage remedies, combined with nutritional support and supplementation. Kinesiology and/ or electro-acupuncture techniques are taught so as to enable the practitioner to identify toxins in the body, what organs need treatment or support and what medicinal or nutritional supplements might be required in individual cases.

One weekend will give an introduction to the use of different testing and diagnostic tools (Vega, QX etc) and one will explore the use of Gems, crystals and Flower essences as aids to healing.

Practitioners will be able to explore specific applications of the various disciplines and incorporate them in their practices as they see fit. The unique Vision Planning Program (which will be incorporated into all the seven weekends) will help participants plan their own personal program to ensure that the knowledge and skills acquired on the course are built into their practices.


Skills/achievements gained

The course provides the CAM practitioner with the skills and knowledge needed to incorporate a wider range of energetic medicine techniques into their practice and utilise these for the benefit of their patients.

Participants will be taught how to use Energetic Medicine Techniques to help identify problems, select solutions and assist clients in recovery. The course will add to the practitioners understanding of the importance of nutrition, how to identify any deficits that exist and prepare treatment strategies based the principles of energetic medicine.

This course has been designed specifically for healthcare professionals running busy practices. A totally unique course that not only provides a thorough grounding in conventional nutritional theory but also looks at differing nutritional perspectives of traditional medicine, focusing particularly on nutrition in Chinese medicine. On the Masters Programme you will have the opportunity to follow a line of research to develop a clinical specialism within your practice.

The first year of this course is made up of three modules:

Nutritional Medicine Foundation: This module sets the historical, cultural and political issues surrounding nutritional medicine in context. It reviews the foundations of conventional medicine and explores a holistic perspective on the subject. The module aims to establish the basic skills needed for the practice of successful nutritional therapy.

Nutrition in Traditional Medicine: This module explores the ideas behind a range of traditional nutritional approaches with a specific focus on the holistic approach of Chinese nutrition.

Nutrition Clinic: Taking common disease categories, this module aims to enable students to build up an understanding of the systematic clinical approach needed for holistic treatment, alongside a critical awareness of the background of research applicable. Taking students’ developing expertise in nutritional medicine, the module uses its application in the clinical environment to explore a variety of approaches to patient-centred treatment.

An option second year is available to those who wish to study to Masters level:

The Masters Research module aims to service the skills requirements of specialist subject units and to develop theoretical and practical skills in managing research and literature analysis projects, with particular regard to:

  • An in-depth literature study in a specialist subject area
  • Understanding the ethical approval process
  • Establishing research aim, goals and objectives
  • Managing research projects
  • Statistical techniques for analyzing and interpreting data
  • Identifying and using the most appropriate information technologies

Description of course and content

The School of Integrated Health offers the most comprehensive range of graduate and postgraduate courses in complementary and alternative medicine (CAM) in the UK. We provide a unique inter-professional learning environment fostering high level practitioner skills. We seek to address the changing needs of the professional homeopath with a view to life-long learning in practice. The courses create opportunities to ground practice in a broad conceptual base, develop research understanding and explore areas of interest in collaboration with other homeopaths and CAM professionals.

There are four different study options available:

Advanced Professional Practice programme leading to PG Certificate (3 modules), PG Diploma (6 modules) or MSc (part-time, 9 modules over 2 to 5 years)

For those wanting a thorough grounding in academic or research skills, this programme offers an individually tailored reflective exploration of your own clinical work. Learning in multi-professional groups, you will gain a broad conceptual base in the field as a foundation for exploring your individual interests in either professional development or a research project. A wide range of option modules allows for a highly flexible approach to course design, so that each student can pursue a unique path of study optimised to their needs.

Diploma in Health Sciences for Complementary Medicine (part-time) The course has been designed in response to the demand for a suitable health science course which will enhance and inform practitioners who are already qualified. You will study the fundamental sciences to provide the necessary background to extend your knowledge of the processes underlying disease and how these relate to diagnosis and treatment.

Separate modules utilised in a CPD programme of your own choosing:
Most of the modules in our undergraduate and postgraduate courses may be taken as stand alone “short courses”. These include final year (level 6) homeopathy modules on the BSc Honours Health Sciences: Homoeopathy, exploring a wide range of contemporary methodological approaches within homeopathic practice and advanced materia medica studies. Suitable modules from the MSc programme might include: planning for professional development; research methods; therapeutic relationship; mind-body medicine; current advances. There are also modules for learning in your workplace or for academically grounding your studies at conferences and workshops.

  • communicate complex ideas confidently, clearly, competently and autonomously, via a range of media (eg verbal, written and others)
  • critically analyse the context of integrative healthcare in general and of their own work in particular

    Learning Outcomes for the Diploma in Health Sciences for Complementary Medicine

    • apply the health sciences model to communicate effectively with patients and other healthcare professionals
    • understand and work within the limits of their knowledge and competence. This includes working collaboratively with other healthcare professionals
    • explore their own values and beliefs about the health sciences model and critically reflect on their interactions with patients and colleagues to enhance the quality of care and their continuing development

Description of course and content

The course is specifically designed to meet the needs of practitioners of homeopathy who wish to further their knowledge and skills in a number of areas, including homeopathic research, reflective practice, education and supervision. It also offers the opportunity to substantially develop existing professional practice interests through a student initiated study and also by means of the Dissertation.

It provides a forum for homeopaths around the world to share knowledge and experience and debate methodological and contemporary issues in homeopathy within a collaborative, on-line learning community.

Learning Environment
The course is delivered by e-learning and is therefore potentially accessible to homeopaths in all parts of the world. It utilises www (web) technology to deliver multimedia teaching materials and includes live interactive sessions on a regular basis. On-line activities are supported by e-mail contact with tutors and peer groups, message boarding and scheduled live personal tutorials.

The course will be conducted in spoken and written English. It offers postgraduate education for career development and continuing professional development.

Dates and times

The academic year runs October – April, virtual attendance in each module on a weekly or fortnightly basis, one hour per week. You can expect to spend a minimum of 6 hours a week on reading, thinking and responding to tasks to support your learning.

Entry Requirements
A recognised British honours degree of 2.2 or above, or equivalent, and a recognised qualification in homeopathy (a minimum four year part-time or three year full-time course), and hold current Registration with an approved homeopathic organisation. Since both reflective practice and supervision form major threads within the course you will be expected to be engaged in both for the duration of the course.

GCSE English, or IELTS 6.5 in both the reading and writing bands (or equivalent).

Applications falling outside of these entry requirements are welcomed, and all applications will be considered on their individual merit and in the light of the nature and scope of the programme or work proposed. Informal enquiries are welcomed and will normally be followed by an initial advisory telephone interview.

To participate in this course it is essential that applicants have regular and reliable access to a computer (Windows, or Mac running Windows programs), headset (or speakers) and simple webcam. Access to a broadband internet connection is essential.

Description of course and content

3 yr part-time post-graduate training programme in Homoeopathy. Over c.400 hours of the teaching of George Vithoulkas – one of our greatest masters of Homoeopathy. In this course George teaches the full and complete understanding of the real science of homoeopathy. For the first time he reveals his complete knowledge from over 40 years of practice. This has never been taught before in the UK and so is new information for most UK homoeopaths.

He gives us the full version of his revolutionary Levels of Health model and explains how this is essential to understand before we can be successful in treating most of today’s chronic health problems. His clear cut teaching enables us to progress in an accelerated learning curve – making clear all of the big questions we have about the difficulties of cases and thus successful practice.

Course content: 3 parts:

  • Theory – understanding the Levels of Health and Chronic disease.
  • Materia medica – over 250 remedies are taught form his own vast experience. Only the essentials of remedies are taught ie what you need to know about our most important remedies. These are the remedies that really work in practice but are not known well enough. All new information from his 200,000 cases files.
  • Live cases – follow over 30 live cases form start to finish – learn from a living master.

The course is taught by George Vithoulkas on video as given at the Academy in Alonissos, Greece and moderated by two of his experienced pupils – Andrew Ward R.S.Hom and Dr Jorgos Kavouras.

So far the course has attracted a wide range of nationalities and offers a unique multi-cultural learning enviroment.

Skills/achievements gained

To give students the most complete understanding of real homoeopathy to date. This course will equip the student with the most advanced level of knowledge of homoeopathy and confidence to practice successfully.

Dates and times

The course consists of 400 hours of teaching. This is split into 3 years with each year consisting of 16 days teaching.

The days are split into blocks of intensive learning eg 5 days and 3 day sessions twice a year. Eg: 06/07:
18th – 22nd October
17th – 19th November
26th – 28th January 07
28th Feb, 1st – 4th March 07
