If you’re anything like me, in the trenches with a young family, then sometimes it can feel like getting ready for a family holiday is like preparing for a small military operation…
Snacks for the journey? Check. Half the house somehow packed into one suitcase? Also check.
Travelling with kids can be magical… but let’s be honest, it can also come with travel sickness, overtired meltdowns, funny tummies, bumps, bites, sleepless nights and sunburn. I’m fortunate in that now I understand more about homeopathy, I’m a lot less anxious than I used to be about going away.
Having a few remedies tucked into my bag just in case for me has made holidays feel so much calmer, and definitely gives me that reassuring feeling that I’ve got something gentle on hand when little things inevitably do pop up.
Here are a few of my favourite remedies for travelling families…
Arnica
Brilliant for bumps, falls, bruises and all those holiday mishaps that seem to happen around pools, beaches and playgrounds
Cocculus
My go-to for travel sickness. Helpful for car journeys, flights, ferries and children who feel nauseous or dizzy while travelling.
Chamomilla
Perfect for overtired, grumpy, inconsolable little ones. Great after long travel days or disrupted sleep.
Belladonna
Useful to have on hand for sudden fevers, hot red cheeks, sun headaches or heat-related symptoms that come on quickly.
Pulsatilla
A lovely remedy for clingy, emotional children who feel unsettled away from home.
Apis
A summer essential for insect bites, stings and puffy reactions especially when things feel hot, pink and swollen.
Nux Vomica
The too much of everything remedy! Helpful after late nights, travel stress, too much ice cream, unusual food or holiday overindulgence.
Calendula Cream
Not a remedy pill, but always in my bag for cuts, scrapes and sore skin. Think natures answer to savlon.
If you’re travelling soon, now is the perfect time to pop together a simple holiday remedy kit. You’ll probably end up using it more than the fancy holiday outfits you packed just in case…
Wishing you a happy, calm and memory-filled summer…
